Types of Child Care

As a parent you may explore may options to locate the most appropriate child care arrangements for your children.  You should be able to choose a program that will meet your family's needs.

The types of child care regulated by the state are as follows:

  • Day Care Center - a state licensed facility providing care for seven ore more children.

  • Group Day Care Home - a state licensed facility providing care for no more than 12 children.

  • Family Day Care Home - a state certified family residence with one caregiver providing care for no more than six children who are unrelated to the caregiver.

Relative / Neighbor Care is also available, but is unregulated by the state.  Care is provided by an individual in his or her own home for three or fewer children who are unrelated to the caregiver.  This type of care is available for subsidy, but the parent must find the caregiver.  Neither the CCIS of Huntingdon County nor the Department of Public Welfare can make referals of a Relative / Neighbor provider.
